We are so glad to talk to you. First, tell us a little about yourself.
My name is DxxM (Artist/creator) of SMLLWRLD along with Aura. I’m 21 years old and was born in Bethlehem , Pa.
Great. How long have you been working on music? What are your earliest memories of hip hop?
I’ve been working on music since I was about 14 years old but I’ve always been involved with music because both sides of my family were into making music or dancing, my uncle manny was a DJ so I had a lot of good music to listen to and learn from while growing up. It was all a good learning experience for all of us because we were able to gather a lot of knowledge and experience throughout our years of making music together.
So you grew up around music, that’s great. What inspired you to rap? What did you listen to growing up?
My family was my inspiration to start making music. My uncles being Djs and breakdancers, my older brother and cousin being rappers themselves (Steezy P and TwoTimes$) and my brothers Almighty, Aura and Third. I listened to a bunch of different sounds growing up from Tears for fears, Pharrell, Spandau Ballet, MF DOOM, Nore, Nas, Pun, Heltah Skeltah (a lot of Sean P R.I.P), Mobb Deep, OF, Lil Wayne, MGMT, Tame Impala, Jay-Z, DMX, Busta Rhymes, Bone Thugs, Pac, Big, Jamal ….. a bunch of favorites I really have a love for music.
Yeah definitely a lot of Old school artist really influenced my sound, and the homie Savion X also known as Save Allen and my team of course.
That’s a great mix of influences. What are your plans for this year? Musically, artistically, etc.
My plans for this year are to promote myself and SMLLWRLD and to start releasing a few more songs in the near future.
Any plans for a project anytime soon?
I’m working on a mixtape for my listeners but before that I’m going to give you guys another EP.
It was a really good introduction of who I am to the locals so the responses I received were pretty inspiring knowing people like my sound.
Definitely. So you’re working on new material right? What details can you give on your upcoming projects?
Definitely. One of my projects will be another 1minute track EP and the other will finally be a full Mixtape with a few features and videos coming soon.
Are you working with anyone on this project?
I’ve been working with Aura as usual, I have a few things being worked on with the bro ProdbyAlec, and some songs with my older brother Steezy P and Third.
I chose the name DxxM because my Uncle who was a Dj would have a lot of MF DOOM playing and growing up I noticed a lot of artists names really came from old school artist or drug dealers with a twist to the name. I added the two Xs when I was about 15-16 cause in comics when a character dies his eyes get crossed out with two Xs and that’s also why I created my tag “DxxM, I thought he was dead?!” to go with the story behind the name and the tag also refers to how people thought I was done with music but I’m still here.
That’s dope and very creative. Not too many artists can come up with something so creative as a name. Why did people think you were done with music? Please elaborate on that
Thank you I appreciate it and because I like to kick back sometimes and see what the city has to offer while I work on new things but a lot of people would assume we’re not working if we’re not always tweeting about it.
Yeah you know what they say, “if it never happened on social media then it never really happened.” (Laughs). But I am a fan of your recent track Legacy. What are your thoughts on that record?
Thank you and that track to me is words waiting to be manifested because there’s no doubt in my mind that my team SMLLWRLD has the potential to build a legacy for the team and our families.
That’s what it’s all about man, the legacy and being able to pass it down and make something your family can be proud of. Thank you for talking with me. Do you have any last words or shoutouts?
That’s real bro and thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me it’s highly appreciated. Shout out to my team SMLLWRLD and my family, grandparents, parents, aunts, and my girl, shout out to Homebase a local skate shop for keeping me out of trouble and on a board, shout out to you for this interview, and shout out to all my listeners you are all appreciated.
